ftp problems connecting to my website to upload

Hello

I've played with this a lot and now think there may be a block or firewall at the virgin media end so I can't connect into my ftp (there is no block at the ftp server, and the software is all working).  I can connect on my mobile on mobile data, and friends can connect to it so it is my virgin media?  can someone from virgin please message me to do checks / correct my account?

many thanks

Trev

Re: ftp problems connecting to my website to upload

Who hosts the site?

Chances are they are blocking your public IP

Re: ftp problems connecting to my website to upload

Virgin won’t be blocking it no.

What are the results of a tracert to the IP of the server?

Re: ftp problems connecting to my website to upload

I'm not sure what that is?

But yes they think it is Virgin, so how would I get them to run tests etc?  I'm pretty good but no expert in computers to that level so really I want someone to look into it / solve the problem / issue?

could you advise 🙂 thanks

Re: ftp problems connecting to my website to upload

Open a command prompt, type:

tracert <servername/IP>

Then hit enter and let it run. Copy and paste the results back here.

I'm 99.99999% certain your webhost is blocking your public IP and the person you spoke to had no clue and was fobbing you off.

Re: ftp problems connecting to my website to upload

its not a website, its the ftp.  so it is updating my website.

ftp.trevwilliams.co.uk

but I can connect using eg mobile date network.. so the issue is somewhere between the server and virgin and they must be a block somewhere (I think) would be great to have someone from virgin run a check their end like the ftp host did?

Re: ftp problems connecting to my website to upload

You need to ask the webhost to unblock your public IP. That's it. Simple.

EDIT: I can trace to it successfully:
