consistant random disconnects

I have been experiencing disconnects daily for over a month now. It might happen 3 times a day, it might happen 20 times in a day, sometimes while gaming, sometimes while watching youtube or standard web-browsing. I troubleshoot network problems and it says 'the default gateway is unavailable' and reconnects within a few minutes. I have tried every fix I can find for it (changing wifi channel, static ip, updating all drivers etc) and have consulted some friends who work in i.t tech support and I still have this problem. I would like to get a new router to see if the router is the cause of the problem, as I really feel like I have exhausted every other option.

Re: consistant random disconnects

Does a wired connection also drop?

Re: consistant random disconnects

Thank's for the quick response. Unfortunately I am unable to use an ethernet cable due to the distance between my computer and the router (down stairs and through 2 rooms). I'm not prepared to run a 30 meter cable around my house as I live with an elderly person.

Re: consistant random disconnects

Then it’s difficult to ascertain what’s dropping out. Do the lights on the hub change when the connection drops? Does it happen to all devices at once or sporadically?

Re: consistant random disconnects

I actually don't know what happens to the hub when it drops as I just troubleshoot problems and it fixes within 3 or 4 minutes. I believe it happens to multiple devices  although I only really use my desktop pc at the moment. My desktop is a 3 month old £1000 pc so I don't think it is a problem on that end also the disconnects only started around 4 weeks ago.
Next time I disconnect I will go and check the hub

Re: consistant random disconnects

Can you set up a Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) at thinkbroadband.com - this will give you an insight into what is happening with the signal at the other side of the Hub, it will take a few hours to get any kind of trend showing although you should post the link straight away.

Post a 'Live Link' to your BQM on here.

Instructions for posting BQM Link

Under your BQM graph are two links in red.

Click the lower link (Share Live Graph) then click generate.

Copy the text in the Direct Link box, beware, there may be more text than you can see.

On here click the Link icon (2 links chain to the left of the camera icon)

In the URL box paste the link you copied and in the ‘text to display’ box write My BQM then click OK - you can post the link straight away.

Re: consistant random disconnects

Can you please

Type 192.168.0.1 (192.168.100.1 in Modem mode) into your browser URL bar and press enter.

Hub 2 & 3 When the page appears DO NOT LOG IN but click ‘Check Router Status’.

Hub 4 When the page appears LOG IN then click ‘Check Router Status’.

Copy and paste the contents of the Downstream, Upstream, Configuration and Network Log tabs onto here, if you get a yellow / straw box warning click the Post button again. Use one post for each tab if you wish.

Please do not use screen grabs.

A Guru will be along soon to decipher the info.
