Wireless Issue and Virgin offer no advice

Ok so ive only been with VirginMedia 1 day but have a question. We are getting 100mb on wired connection but on wireless it is terrible. The virgin representative had no advice or resolution just to cancel the contract.

Why is the service so bad!!!!!

He said he would cancel then said ok ill make a note and can cancel your call now and that was it!

My question to the rep was why offer fast broadband speeds if the router provided cannot support those speeds?

My old BT Hub performed better on a 38mb than this.

The engineer when he fitted the router said that Virgin was amazing that you wouldnt get congestion at busy times, virgin could cope better with congestion and could up limits when needed, everything would be amazing and he wouldnt even buy a house that wasnt in a Virgin enabled area. SO what is it im doing wrong? My speed wired was 48 and they said that was no more than promised. My speed unwired was dropping down to 17

Should i have persevered? bought a new router?

Baffled!!

Re: Wireless Issue and Virgin offer no advice

and that will definitely improve wifi speed - just as connectivity is fine - i.e. showing as 4bars on mobile devises jut no speed.

and so what am i looking for in a good router? and do i just swap it with my vigin media hub or is it more complicated?

Re: Wireless Issue and Virgin offer no advice

You get a router like this at least with 1Gb ports:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/ZyXEL-Armor-Multi-Gigabit-AC2600-Router/dp/B08KGSQWTT/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&k...
and put the hub in modem mode with your router:

Re: Wireless Issue and Virgin offer no advice

So I’ve changed my setup, the engineer moved the hub so the kids could get wired connection to their consoles/pc

Wifi was rubbish still so I bought a new router Netgear nighthawk xr500

got all up and running but there is still no difference to the WiFi. Our tv and pc are Wi-Fi and can’t get a good strong signal and it keeps buffering when streaming.
speeds are good if your sitting in the same room as the router but otherwise it’s pants. Think I’ve wasted £220!
any ideas? Do I now have to go and buy power line adapters?

Is the hub in modem mode with your new router?

Re: Wireless Issue and Virgin offer no advice

yes it’s all up and running fine

ive turned off smart Wi-Fi and think that’s made a difference to tv but Wi-Fi still is not the same as what it was on my bt hub

Re: Wireless Issue and Virgin offer no advice

Maybe your device is slowing you down? try channel 13 on the 2.4G and 52 on 5G.
