Wired Connection Slower than Wireless

Hi,

I have VM 350mbps package. I have a main router supplemented by a TP link up to 1gbps.  I'm getting an issue whereby:

Wireless connection at the router: 180-200mbps

Wired connection at the router 70-90mbps

Wireless connection at TP link 60-70mbps

Wired connection TP link c. 20mbps.

This is across multiple devices Xbox one X, desktop, HP elitebook with consistent results.  Reboot tried, no fault on line.  Any tips appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Wired Connection Slower than Wireless

Hi,

Please try a full reboot on the hub, pin hole reset for at least 30 seconds.

The TP link will run slower as its only repeating the internet that its seeing.

Thanks Chris

Re: Wired Connection Slower than Wireless

What do you get wired directly to the Virgin hub rather than the TP Link?

Re: Wired Connection Slower than Wireless

Thanks for the response both.

I've done the full reboot but didn't make any difference.

Straight wired connection into the router is only producing 70-90 Mbps Vs the wireless connection next to the router of greater than 150mbs.

Tried multiple ethernet cables (cat 5 and cat 6).

Thanks

Re: Wired Connection Slower than Wireless

Forget the TP Link Router.

What speed do you get wired straight into the Virgin Hub using a Cat6 cable?

Cat 5 will only give you a speed of 100Mbps max.

Re: Wired Connection Slower than Wireless

Thanks for the response again. Cat 6 did the trick off the router it turns out, so looks like the issue I had off the main router was a cable problem.

In terms of the lesser speed on the tp link, must just be a limitation of the circuitry.

Thanks all.

Re: Wired Connection Slower than Wireless

OK - so what's the situation now with speeds?

Re: Wired Connection Slower than Wireless

Spoiler

Wired off the router with cat 6 at 525mbps

Wireless next to router 160-200 Mbps

Wired off the tp link with cat 6  max 40 Mbps

Wireless near tp link up to 60mbps

I realise the tp link would have reduced speeds but wasn't expecting quite the drop off. Sounds like it's to be expected however.

Thanks

Re: Wired Connection Slower than Wireless

The TP link shouldn't be that slow though.

What model of TP-Link is the router?

Re: Wired Connection Slower than Wireless

The model I picked was TL-WPA8630P.

It stated speeds up to 1gbps plus 3 Ethernet outputs. I suspect the socket i have it attached is a separate ring. I was picking up 160 Mbps on a closer socket so the location may be the issue.
