Wifi issues with superhub3

Hi - I've recently started having wifi issues. I have a VM superhub3. It's exactly the same issues that nick_p describes here https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Networking-and-WiFi/Wifi-issue-with-Superhub-3-0/td-p/4167813 I've tried various solutions - reset hub, Disable Channel Optimization, reset network settings on devices etc - but no joy. It looks like the solution was for VM to send out a new hub. Can VM do that for me please? Thank you.

Re: Wifi issues with superhub3

Welcome to the Trials & Tribulations of Wi-Fi

The problem with Wi-Fi is that it can be brilliant at breakfast time and useless by lunchtime and you haven't changed anything, BUT, something, somewhere has changed, then you can spend hours and even days trying to find a fix for something that can be totally out of your control.

If you remove all the internal walls, electronic and electrical devices, metallic pipes and conduits and wrap the whole building in a thick lead shield you will have a good chance of getting decent Wi-Fi from a VM Hub.

Many people have accepted that the VM Wi-Fi is poor and have purchased third party equipment that is much, much more powerful than the VM supplied kit and once set up have wondered why they waited for so long.

A new hub is unlikely to fix wifi issues

As Gary says.

Your best options are to ...

Use ethernet cables to connect devices where ever possible,

Get a decent third party gigabit capable Wi-Fi router.

Re: Wifi issues with superhub3

Thanks. Replacing the router seemed to work for nick_p so I'm wondering if it'll work for me too. Are there VM staff on here that respond to messages, or is it just VM customers? I hear VM have a hub4 router now, so perhaps that will fix things?

Re: Wifi issues with superhub3

The Hub4 is no better, if not worse for some, myself included.

The best thing is modem mode and your own router.

Forum mods will reply but it’s mainly a community forum here. And the advice the mod will give won’t be to use modem mode.

Re: Wifi issues with superhub3

Ok, thanks. Can you recommend an alternative router please? Something like this https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/networking/whole-home-wi-fi-systems/tp-link-deco... ? We're on the 100MB package currently and that's absolutely fine (when the wifi works!) I'm a lecturer and hardwire the broadband into my laptop (Zoom lectures etc) and never a problem. It's just the wifi that's gone awry in the past week (iphone dropping out etc - although interestingly iPad less so). Thanks.

A mesh system is a good option if you need to spread the WiFi across multiple rooms/storeys, yes.
