Wifi failing

Had 2 new hub 3.0 in the past week.  I fitted one myself and the second was fitted by an engineer , who came out and replaced cabling as well.  Hub has been reconfigured to turn off Smart??? Hub.

Am I alone in thinking there is something wrong?  Hub is away from any chargers, in the same room as the laptop (about 8 feet away), and in the open.  Any ideas would be gratefully received, as I'm on the point of leaving Virgin after the lack of help I've had today, with the phone being hung up on me and being told twice that someone would phone me (1st time within three hours and then when I called to say no one had been in touch I was asked to wait a further 2 hours, to no avail).

Re: Wifi failing

Might be a loose connection or damaged cable - Check all your coax cable connections are in nice and "finger" tight at the Hub and the wall box and at any splitters/attenuators/connectors etc and that the internal wiring is ok with no kinking or chaffing. Also check that all looks good with the outside cabling and wall box.

Re: Wifi failing

Thanks for the suggestion, but all new coax cables were fitted and tested by the guy who came out last week

Re: Wifi failing

The first basic step would be to test the connection whilst directly connected to the Hub by ethernet cable, to rule out any problem with VM's connection coming into the Hub.

Wireless can be severely affected by many external influence like Client hardware, Range, The Number of devices sharing the same wireless channel, The topography of your home and the big killer, interference from neighbouring wireless networks and domestic appliances.

The 5GHz band is wider and is less congested. It would be worth splitting the bands by giving them different SSIDs so you can see what band you are connecting to. It would also maybe worth disabling Smart WiFi aswell

Re: Wifi failing

Smart wifi disabled.  Nothing else other than TV on network, disconnecting that makes negligible difference, laptop is no more than 3metres from the hub,

Yes - but have YOU checked what was left behind is looking/feeling properly connected ?  Flucuations like this are often caused by a bad connection somewhere,

Checked everything I can and all seem fine, to my inexperienced eyes and hands
