Wifi dropping off randomly

Getting really sick of this internet now.

Had nothing but problems with my internet for years now however as the kids are getting older and more technology its becoming more and more apparent. I am a student and my wife works from home (due to Covid-19) but constantly having problems with the Wi-Fi dropping out/internet dropping, even to the point Netflix wont stream and YouTube crashing.

From reading through a number of posts here i have got the information below. My service is 350mb with TV and home phone and this is my 3rd superhub3 all being the same.

Can anyone help? I don't really want to go to a separate router if I can avoid it. any help would be much appreciated

Re: Wifi dropping off randomly

Welcome to the Trials & Tribulations of Wi-Fi

The problem with Wi-Fi is that it can be brilliant at breakfast time and useless by lunchtime and you haven't changed anything, BUT, something, somewhere has changed, then you can spend hours and even days trying to find a fix for something that can be totally out of your control.

If you remove all the internal walls, electronic and electrical devices, metallic pipes and conduits and wrap the whole building in a thick lead shield you will have a good chance of getting decent Wi-Fi from a VM Hub.

Many people have accepted that the VM Wi-Fi is poor and have purchased third party equipment that is much, much more powerful than the VM supplied kit and once set up have wondered why they waited for so long.

Re: Wifi dropping off randomly

BQM showing a couple of blips last evening - is that the common time for "disconnects"?   Only "odd" thing on your connection stats is the PostRS errors on Down channel 13(14). So can you switch the Hub off and unplug it for 5 minutes and then restart and take a look - the RS errors should have reset to 0. Then watch every hour or two and see if they start reappearing - they shouldn't.

Do a quick check that all of your coax cable connections are in nice and "finger" tight - at the Hub and wall box and also at any connectors etc.  Ensure there are no “unterminated cable loose ends.  Disconnect all the connections and reconnect to be sure.  Also check that the internal wiring is ok with no kinking or chaffing, check that all looks good with the outside cabling and wall box.

Re: Wifi dropping off randomly

Thanks John,

Yes the dropouts are more frequent when everyone is home however during the day they are happening with only a couple of computers on and the tv and cctv

I will give that a try now see if it does anything
