Wifi Dongle

I am looking at getting my nana a form of wifi for her christmas. She would only be using it for watching the likes of netflix and catch up,  so she would be better with a form of wifi dongle or portable wifi rather than a formal wifi contract. Do Virgin offer some way of pay as you go wifi that she would be able to top up her data as and when she needs it.

Thanks,

Zander

Re: Wifi Dongle

More info needed.

Are you talking about a "MiFi" dongle with a data sim or a device like a "Fire" for plugging into a TV

Edit - I reread and think you mean the Mifi dongle - are you in a 4G or 5G area.? 😎

Does she have broadband? Is it from VM? What Speeds?

What device would she be using? A TV with internet connectivity - or what?

Re: Wifi Dongle

that can get very expensive. Streaming video can eat up a lot of data

Low quality video is very low-quality. think 240p or 320p. Low-quality settings will use about 0.3GB (300MB) per hour.
SD quality video is standard 480p video. SD-quality video uses about 0.7GB (700MB) per hour.
HD quality video is between 720p and 2K (remember, the app adjusts the stream). HD-quality video uses about 0.9GB (720p), 1.5GB (1080p) and 3GB (2K) per hour.
UHD quality video uses a lot of data. A 4K stream uses about 7.2GB per hour.

Re: Wifi Dongle

Hello

The other thing to note is that Virginmedia no longer do Pay as You Go SIMs, they only deal with contract SIMs.

Re: Wifi Dongle

Thanks for letting me know.

She wouldnt be using it all the time and possibly would be only using it for 1-2 hours at a time

Thanks,
