WiFi drops out multiple times a day

Getting wifi dropouts all day and night.

All wireless devices affected. Tried different laptops, phones, tablets, wifi dongles - all dropped and then sometimes reconnect after a moment or minute.

Rebooted to no effect.

Factory reset to no effect.

Wired connections are fine.

2G network very slow

5G terribly slow and poor signal level even in the same room!

Here are some logs that I hope will help.

Re: WiFi drops out multiple times a day

The problem with Wi-Fi is that it can be brilliant at breakfast time and useless by lunchtime and you haven't changed anything, BUT, something, somewhere has changed, then you can spend hours and even days trying to find a fix for something that can be totally out of your control.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

If you remove all the internal walls, water, electronic and electrical devices, metallic pipes and conduits and wrap the whole building in a thick lead shield you will have a good chance of getting decent Wi-Fi from an ISP Hub.

Just a few things that can affect Wi-Fi in the average home …

Mirrors, furniture, fish tanks, people, radiators, walls (some more than others), flooring / ceilings, cordless phones, baby monitors, microwave ovens, fridges & freezers, TVs, next doors Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi equipment, DAB transmitters, the list is endless.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Many people have accepted that the VM Wi-Fi is poor and have purchased third party equipment that is much, much more powerful than the VM supplied kit and once set up have wondered why they waited for so long.

Re: WiFi drops out multiple times a day

Thanks for the reply Mike, but it's not interference nor overload. I've turned off all other wifi devices and seen that the only connection is one laptop. Still get drops sat in the same room, within touching distance of the router. The house has not changed in any way that would stop signals being transmitted, as they have been fine for the last 7 years or so.

Seems like just the wifi components of the router are somehow failing, so ideally a replacement would be the solution?

It doesn’t have to be stuff in your household that causes the interference.

Re: WiFi drops out multiple times a day

Yes, external influences may indeed cause interference, but I've tried different channels and moved the router as far as the cable will allow.

It's not interference according to Network Analyser on my phone either.

So how do I raise a service call with virgin, anyone?

They don't reply to the text message thing and so far no company replies here either.

Re: WiFi drops out multiple times a day

The network analyser will only pick up Wi-Fi signals, it won't pick up things like baby monitors or microwave leakage.

When I used the Hub 3 Wi-Fi, it used to go into meltdown when the local authority / police CCTV camera on the lamppost adjacent to my house was in use.
