Wi-Fi Blackspots - How to order a Wi-Fi pod

A couple parts of house have very poor signal.

Technician replaced router earlier in month.
Router placed in best possible position. Just renewed on a Volt package

Did have an VM power line kit but one unit died

Run Virgin connect Ap, repeatedly slow or no signal in parts of house.
Gone round in circles but cannot find how to order a Wi-Fi Pod.

Re: Wi-Fi Blackspots - How to order a Wi-Fi pod

Hi @TheBeeches96

You need to use the Connect app to perform the Home Scan in the area where the signal is low(est)

The info below is a copy paste of the steps provided by @John_GS  (Forum Team)

Please can you try the below steps for me on the app as it should help sort this;

  • Tap Start the scan
  • Then Start the scan again
  • While connect to WiFi, Tap I’m ready
  • Wait 2 mintues for Scan
  • Scan complete, Tap continue
  • Tap Add a room, Tap the room you're in
  • Start the Scan (do this in every room)
  • Scan complete
  • Tap Optimise WiFi now if an option
  • If so, Tap Optimise
  • Optimisation complete, Tap Rescan room,  Tap Start Scan
  • Tap Order a WiFi Booster if an option

Hi TheBeeches96, thanks for the message and sorry to hear that you are having an issue with the order of the pods.

Can you follow the advise of newapollo and let us know if you are able to order the pod?

Kind regards, Chris.

Re: Wi-Fi Blackspots - How to order a Wi-Fi pod

you can split your wifi into 2 networks, 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, you will find that the 2.4Ghz network has more strength whilst the 5ghz network faster speed.

So you should start with that and stress test it before adding wireless extenders.

If you have devices with ethernet ports don't use them wifi unless you have to and never use network over mains adapters, they are junk, they suffer interference from any transformer connected to the mains circuit and the latest 50Hz that mains power carries.

Run an ethernet cable network to each room of your house and use a link sys or Rasperry Pi wifi extender where you really need extra signal for wifi

Re: Wi-Fi Blackspots - How to order a Wi-Fi pod

HI again @TheBeeches96

If you do split the wavebands into 2.4GHz and 5GHz as suggested by @ColinsDad , then if you do get VM's wifi pods they won't work.

With the pod(s) you should be aware of the following requirements for the pods to work with the Hubs.

The Hub must be in 'Router Mode' and not have been changed to 'Modem Mode'
Channel Optimisation must be left on
The SSIDs must be the same and broadcast enabled
The SSID must be password protected
The Passphrases of the SSIDs must match
As long as all of the above points are all met then the Pods will automatically connect to your Hub's WiFi and begin broadcasting. The wireless details from the Pods will be the same as the Hub's details, so no additional steps are required to connect up the devices in the home.
