What is going on with cable broadband?

My cable broadband has been down most of the day. Basically it’s up and down like a tarts draws. We get spurts of download which vary wildly and the upload speed is back to the mid 90’s 33k modem speeds. 
Both myself and my wife have lost a full day of working from home.

Yes we have rebooted the router multiple times, tv is fine but the internet is appalling. 

I am having to use my mobile to post this.

Assuming these issues are happening with Ethernet cable connections.. (if not, you need to check this isn't a wireless issue)

Is anything reported on the local status line? 0800 5610061 often lists known network issues down to street/postcode level.

Do you have a BQM running? Free, takes 5-10minutes to setup and monitors your connection 24/7 providing excellent evidence of any network issues.

Hi thanks for the reply. Tried then phone number. Reporting no issues. Loaded the Virgin phone app, ran the test and it said you need to login to your account online to properly diagnose the issue. Did that from my phone and PC and I just get a page stating “Ops something is broken”.

any further advice/help would be greatfully appreciated.

So if you connect a laptop/PC to your hub via Ethernet cable and tested, what speeds are you getting?

Have you setup the BQM?

Hi. Yeah, my PC and Laptop are both wired directly to the router. On a speedtest download speed varies between 50-350mbs wildly. Upload speeds are stuck between 0.01-0.12mbs. It's impossible to use most of the time. I've set BQM up, I'm not sure how to attach the screen shot. But it shows a lot of dropped packets, Max Latency varies between 30-120ms.

A loose connection or damaged cable can do this. So, do a quick check that all of your coax cable connections are in nice and "finger" tight - at the Hub and wall box and also at any connectors etc. Ensure there are no “unterminated cable loose ends. Disconnect all the connections and reconnect to be sure. Also check that the internal wiring is ok with no kinking or chaffing, check that all looks good with the outside cabling and wall box.

Post up all the data - copy/paste as “Formatted Text” (not images) 3 FULL sets of data onto here – 2 pages from the Downstream, 2 from the Upstream, & the Network Logs page. Don't worry too much about the formatting it can be easily read & DON’T include personal data or MAC addresses - blank them out - if you copy/paste the data, the board software will do this for you (you may need to click the "submit" button again.
