What devices I can connect to 2G and 5G wifi channels? and why virgin introduced two separate channels?

Recently, I starting to see two wifi channels 2G and 5G. However, what is the advantage of one over the other (apart from the speed)?  What type of devices I should connect to the 2G and 5G channel? One of my housemates told me that, I should connect mobile, iPad, TV, etc to 2G, and large devices like computer/laptop to 5G. Connecting mobile to 5G would create frequency congestions, is that true?

2.4Ghz has distance but not speed.

5Ghz has speed but not distance.

5Ghz channels are less congested than 2.4Ghz channels.

Your housemate is giving you incorrect information 🙂
