Hi, I use a vpn to use my work laptop at home but this morning after using the connect app to pause a device (not my laptop) it stoped working and has a message saying
‘The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during initial negotiations with the remote computer’
any ideas what i can do to fix this please?!

Sounds like you have blocked the MAC address of the VPN with the VM Connect app

Why can it not be unblocked with the VM Connect app i.e. the same was it was blocked.
Failing that login to the Hub's menus
1) Advanced settings >>> Wireless >>> Security
1.1) then set Wireless MAC Filtering to Disabled
1.2) "Apply changes"
2) Advanced settings >>> Security >>> MAC Filtering
2.1) then delete all entries in the MAC filter list
2.2 Enable Always on
2.3) "Apply changes"
