VM HUB3 Rebooting

I have noticed over the last week or so my Hub 3 rebooting 2-3 times a day.  not sure whats going on

I did notice the hub running warm, but seems to be well ventilated.

Your stats are looking OK.

Have you checked the 'Check Service Status' at the top of the page ?

If nothing is showing try phoning 0800 561 0061, this will tell you of more local issues that may be affecting the area. Be aware that it isn't a manned line.

Go round all the accessible co-ax connections and ensure that they are finger tight.

If everything above is OK we need do some troubleshooting; to start with …

 

Can you set up a Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) at thinkbroadband.com - this will give you an insight into what is happening with the signal at the other side of the Hub, it will take a few hours to get any kind of trend showing although you should post the link straight away.

Post a link to your BQM on here.

Instructions for posting BQM Link

Under your BQM graph are two links in red.

Click the lower link (Share Live Graph) then click generate.

Copy the text in the Direct Link box, beware, there may be more text than you can see.

On here click the Link icon (2 links chain to the left of the camera icon)

In the URL box paste the link you copied and in the ‘text to display’ box write My BQM then click OK - you can post the link straight away.

My BQM 

Had to allow ICMP packets on my WAN interface so you'll see a red line for a while prior to pings and latency being plotted.  I guess I'll need to raise this with VM as reboots are generally either bad software (firmware) or failing hardware.

It may be an idea to do a 5 minute off reboot at the top of the hour to timestamp the BQM, this should also show up on the Network Log; then 15 minutes or so later repost the Hub Network Log so that the times can be aligned.

Once that is done you can check the Network Log to see what is recorded against any reboots that happen.

when i have check previously the only way I seen a reboot is the uptime. the log file does not log a so called "reboot" as it appears the hub crashes out, then  just boots up again for no apparent reason.

i'll just leave the monitor running, I should see any outages and then I'll take it to VM who can at the very least replace the hub for starters.  if they wont then looks like I'll be leaving VM.  I cannot have an unreliable service. full stop.

If a hub reboots you will see at least one entry in the log with a date of 01/01/1970. You are just losing the connection to the CMTS and being reconstructed after a time.

well the log I already posted, did not have a date of 1970 in it, yet the Info section in the hub states uptime as only 12 hours.  So I am unsure how a hub can have an uptime of 12 hours, yet it has not rebooted given your information.

OK the logging is not showing rebooted of 1970.  maybe that was in an older firmware but my Hub is DEFINITALEY not reporting reboots.

I manually rebooted within the webgui.  it restarted the HUB.  logged into the HUB again.  only change was the uptime.  nothing was logged about the reboot at all today.

Maybe the error/warning log level has been changed so that reboots are now not logged?  can someone reboot their hub and see if reboot is logged (same firmware if possible?)
