I can succesfully connect to a V.M. HOTSPOT on several different devices, so I can assume that all the relevant credentials are correct.
What I cannot do is connect more than one device at any given time.
Is this normal? and can I do anything further to enable more than a single device to connect.

Yes that is normal there is a restriction that only one device at a time can connect, it is based on your primary account login details, there is no way around this.
