Upgrade to Hub4 and 1gb broadband and now 70% decrease in download bandwidth

Hi All

I have just upgraded to the 1gb connection yesterday along with a new Hub 4. Setup router successfully and connected fine however the problem is with the download bandwidth. I am only getting 300mb average, which is similar speed to on 350mb connection i had previously.

  • I have a Dell XPS laptop connected via Ethernet (Cat6) to HUB 4 router and still same download speeds
  • I have a WIFI mesh TP LINK Deco M4 and set router in Modem mode and still same download speeds wired and 5ghz wifi.

Sam knows shows I have 1gb speed to router however device is showing sub 300mb.I have tried different cables and still no luck.https://samknows.com/realspeed/

Will provide Network status and BQM from Hub 4 router if required.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do next?

Have VM confirmed that all the work has been done?

Yes as SAMKnows shows however not getting speed on laptop or devices but they are capable of handling 500mb+Capture.PNG

Re: Upgrade to Hub4 and 1gb broadband and now 70% decrease in download bandwidth

Yes, I confirmed on the phone today its all good to go and I did the Sam knows test and as you can see in the screenshot. However all my devices can handle 900mb via ethernet but not getting near that. I'm getting 300mb average and 200mb on WiFi devices.

I now tried via tp link deco but not getting the speeds on that either. And that supports up to 1gb aswell. Help!!! Lol

Re: Upgrade to Hub4 and 1gb broadband and now 70% decrease in download bandwidth

All your downstream power levels, including the DOCSIS 3.1 channel, are out of spec.

Not sure if this could be causing a problem since your are getting nearly 1Gbps to the HUB.

Re: Upgrade to Hub4 and 1gb broadband and now 70% decrease in download bandwidth

Thanks, what do you mean by out of spec? Does the firmware need upgrading, engineer visit or remote update from Virgin?

Right now I'm using it in modem mode and have the tp link running to give the WiFi range around house.

The downstream power levels should be -6 to +10 to be spec, 0dB is optimal.

These can be adjusted by:

  • Fitting an attenuator between the HUB and cable to the wall socket to reduce the power levels.
  • Adjusting the power levels in the local cabinet.

Regardless this should only be done by an engineer.
