Ah that clears some of it up, thanks for your response. 

Just bumped into my neighbour and asked him if he's had any issues. He's with Sky  but has noticed a slow down in the last few days so I wonder if it could be a remote issue somewhere? Or is that a separate issue due to the cables virgin use?

I've attached a photo from today's test, what could be causing these random latency spikes?  This graph doesn't give a true representation on how high the ping can be at times as I've manually pinged Google and got a response time of between 30ms and 800ms.

 

Any help on why this is occurring would be greatly appreciated
