Some sites think I'm using a VPN or hiding my location

Hi

Since switching to Virgin I'm having problem with some sites (e.g. Amazon Prime, BBC iPlayer) thinking I am using a VPN or hiding my location or not in the UK.

I don't have this problem with using another an Internet provider. I'm using a Macbook Pro 2019, MacOS Catilna, with Chrome. Same issue with Safari.

Is this a known issue with Virgin? Is there any fix? Is there any actual technical support from Virgin or just automated messages that lead nowhere?

If you check your IP what location does it give for you?

Or if you go into Google maps and allow it to use your location where does it pinpoint you?

I get the following errors:

"BBC iPlayer only works in the UK. Sorry, it’s due to rights issues. In the UK? Here's some advice."

"Your device is connected to the Internet using a VPN or proxy service. Please disable it and try again. For more help, go to amazon.co.uk/vpn."

Re: Some sites think I'm using a VPN or hiding my location

When I check on whatismyipaddress dot com, I get the right location (London, England).

Google maps detects my location fine as well.

These can be sensitive to DNS configuration(well, some video streaming services can, I have no idea if these services specifically are).. have you made any changes to the default settings on either your router or the device you’re trying to stream on?

I thought it might be that so I tried it with the Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1) but that didn't help. Now it is back to the default for the wireless (i.e. nothing). Not sure how to change it on the router software.

You can’t change it in the hub.

Have you rebooted the hub recently as well?

Is it only the Macbook you are having problems with or other devices?

Re: Some sites think I'm using a VPN or hiding my location

Tried rebooting the hub, no joy.

But it seems I can access both Iplayer and Amazon prime on another laptop so I'm at a loss what is wrong.
