Router and TV Box in different places?

I am thinking about switching to virgin broadband, TV and phone.  Is it possible to have the Router (Hub) on the first floor in a study and the TV on the ground floor and how would they connect with each other?

Re: Router and TV Box in different places?

Hi there

Yes that shouldn't be an issue. If you want them in separate places then we would advise to get an install.

The Modem and the Set top box would both need coaxial cable so we'd need to run coax into both rooms, and the V6 would connect over wifi/powerline adapters so you can get all the On demand services working. The set top box would still need coax cable though so you can get live TV channels

I can help arrange you a site survey prior to install if you'd like so we can visit and discuss cable routing etc?

Thanks

Christy

the installer can do this.

Both the hub and TV box will need the engineer to install a coax cable.

The V6 also needs a network connection. If the wifi is strong enough you can use wifi otherwise powerlines to ethernet will be needed. that will be your responsibility though

Re: Router and TV Box in different places?

Thanks Christy,

Are the V6 and the set top box the same thing, and does the mini TV box connect by Wifi.

I would like an engineer to visit before I get things moving to make sure what we want is doable.  There maybe one or two issues coming in from the road too

Hi @Guy016

Yes the V6 box is the TV box and will require the coax connection. Any TV/STB with us will require the coaxial cable and the Internet connection to the box is purely just for the On demand services such as Netflix, Youtube and Catch up.

And Box to box streaming, Account updates/auth and EPG updates.

It sounds from that reply that you don't need the internet for just tv if you do not use OD. You do. the box will not work correctly with it 🙂

I'll pop you a private message @Guy016 so we can arrange the site survey.

Please keep an eye on the purple envelope for my private message.

Thanks

Re: Router and TV Box in different places?

OK, thanks.  So as I understand things I'd need coax connection to the Hub, the main TV box (are they 360's now) and the mini box.

Can a site visit be arranged?
