Recommendations for Router & Extenders

Hi guys,

(and sorry about this, most of my posts here seem to be about complaining about the WIFI. I promose i`m not avid moaner of things lol)

I`m kinda at my wits end with the router now (which is a bit harsh considering ive been with virgin about 2-3 weeks). All my past calls seems to have not really fixed the issues, but considering the posts i see here, i think the best way forward is to replace the router.

I was curious what people would recommend as a router replacement? and what people might recommend for extenders? (where my ring door bell is placed is just on the edge of the signal with this router so probably best to get one of those to)

So open to all suggestiosn 🙂 and thanks all in advance.

Re: Recommendations for Router & Extenders

If you need a better router and to spread the wireless over a wider area/bigger property look at a mesh system.

The TP Link Deco are popular and well regarded.  Check your needs and beware some, I recall, have relatively slow Ethernet ports for any wired devices.

The Deco M5 are mentioned often on here.  Tenda do some good ones to I believe.

If on the other hand you need wireless in two parts of a house, such as in a remote study, and can run wiring, an Ethernet cable and remote wireless access point is another way to go.

I know a bit about Wi-Fi, Telecoms, and TV as I used to do it for a living but I'm not perfect so don't beat me up... If you make things you make mistakes!

Re: Recommendations for Router & Extenders

Cool Thanks for this.
Not looked much into mesh, I have an old extender (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07NY41HW1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1), but for some reason the thing keeps dropping connection, the ring door bell loses it, it connects to the wifi, but no internet.. its very frustrating. (problems I never had before Virgin though. so I wonder if that extender does quite cut it with the router).

Well. the router is in my study upstairs (as i use the wired connection there). but downstairs, all wireless which is fine everywhere apart from the front door ringdoor bell.

Re: Recommendations for Router & Extenders

Only has 10/100 ports - will never top 100mbps - but if that all you need then ok. Look at the M and S series

Re: Recommendations for Router & Extenders

I have a Nova mesh system running here and have had no issue with Wifi around this house which no expensive router could penetrate to the back garden or all upstairs due to the walls that's how I ended up with a RT-AC88U, You live and learn I was very sceptical due to the price of them, not a problem.

I have nothing to do with the company seems cheap enough to me
