Port Forwarding SMTP 25 on a Super Hub 3

Hi,

I need to forward SMTP traffic to a back end development server on my network and I am unable to.

It says that my rule -

Cannot contain one of the following reserved ports: 25,53,135,137,138,139,161,162,445,1080

I can send email from the dev server but I am unable to route any SMTP traffic to it.

The information says : that this function allows for incoming requests on specific port numbers to reach web servers, FTP servers, mail servers etc

Is there a way to do this as I really need to get it accepting email from outside so that I can continue with my lab work.

Thanks

Re: Port Forwarding SMTP 25 on a Super Hub 3

the port forwarding on the hub is a bit of hit and miss, so would recommend going down putting the hub into mdoem mode and using a 3rd party router,a lot of the community recommend the asus rt68ac series, others netgear nighthawk, but these are the higher end routers, is other cheaper versions on the market.

Re: Port Forwarding SMTP 25 on a Super Hub 3

Hi Paul,

I don't want to spend too much on a buying a router for this one scenario.

I was looking at a Netgear WNDR3700. Do you think that would work?

that is a rather old router, should work all the same.. if your planning on buying it would recommend getting a router that is has AC wireless, since would cost the same or less.e.g. TP-LINK TP-Link Archer C60, ASUS RT-AC53

Get an 802.11ac router. My C8 (see my sig) is a decent mid-range product.

Re: Port Forwarding SMTP 25 on a Super Hub 3

Thanks for pointing those out.

I like the Archer but it only has 10/100 ports and I'm on fiber and the other ASUS only has two ports.

I was looking at this ASUS RT-AC1200G because it has 1 x 1Gb WAN, 4 x 1Gb LAN.

But I'm only going to be using this for a lab to get around the Super Hub issue.

I just need something that is cheap with the same kind of specs at the SH3.

Thanks

Trust me, I only by routers with Gbps ports.

Re: Port Forwarding SMTP 25 on a Super Hub 3

Thanks that TP-Link Archer C8 looks a bit better network wise as I need at least 4 x 1Gbps ports.

But it is still a bit more than what I am looking to spend just for the failing of the SH3.

I,m annoyed with Virgin as I see no reason why they should block port 25.

I will see if I can pick an Asus or C8 up cheaply.

Thanks

Re: Port Forwarding SMTP 25 on a Super Hub 3

If VM are blocking port 25, I do not think VM would do it at hub level, more likely to do it at the CMTS.

Re: Port Forwarding SMTP 25 on a Super Hub 3

It's not on there list of blocked ports on the network and I see no reason why it should be.

The port forwarding section in the SH3 even talks about port forwarding to mail servers but it doesn't allow you to forward 25.

It's a limitation of the device and I don't know why it was put in there.
