Poor speeds and Picture Quality changes.

I’m receiving poor speeds during the day and in the evenings I notice certain tv channels look pixelated and show in the diagnostics, signal quality shows as ‘fair’ while others channels that look crisp are shown as ‘good’. I’ve had my leads checked and it’s happening across both boxes. I had a 6db attenuator put on both but doesn’t improve it whatsoever.

Re: Poor speeds and Picture Quality changes.

All those stats are fine and the BQM looks better than mine!

However you are not showing us the Upstream data or the Network logs - post those up too.

TV pixellated? What channels? How is the TV connected - to a VM TV box (which one)? To the internet - ethernet or wifi ?

When you say your speeds are poor - how are you testing that. Can you do it this way....
______________________________________________________________________

Connect a 1GB enabled computer/laptop, with up to date drivers, via a known good and working Cat5e (or better) ethernet cable, directly to the Hub which you have put into “modem mode” (see VM website for “How To”). Test at speedtest.net (not using their App!) to your nearest VM server - try on 2 different browsers.

If they are still low – boot the device into windows safe+networking mode and try again.

There are many posts on here where unknown/flaky software, old network card drivers, corrupted browsers, bad cables or other connected devices are limiting speeds on tests.

Report back what that gets.

Re: Poor speeds and Picture Quality changes.

  • Mainly noticed on BBC 1 HD and Sky Sports Premier League and the odd Sky Cinema channel. Not sure if these additional stats may help?

Thanks for replying.

Re: Poor speeds and Picture Quality changes.

I've had the Virgin 360 box both wired and wireless. Signal still goes between 'fair' and 'good'

Re: Poor speeds and Picture Quality changes.

Up stats look ok. Nothing obvious (to me) is leaping out as a network connection issue.

If you are having TV issues on a VM 360 box that is ethernet cable connected to the Hub (is it?) then you will need to call in to see what they say as all those TV channels are coming in from the co-ax cable and are not related to internet connection. If its a mini360 on wifi then thats a different issue.
