Ordered new router do I need connection details?

I ordered the router recommended here for my cable modem to replace the Hub 3.0 because apparently it is not very good which I can see for myself with my dropping Wi-Fi and cable connections

Do I need any specific connection details or is it as simple as plugging the cable into the modem?

This is the modem that I have ordered

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07C7Y9G96/ tenda modem

Thanks in advance for your help

Andy

Re: Ordered new router do I need connection details?

You've ordered a router, not a modem.

You need to keep the virgin hub connected but change it's mode from Router Mode to Modem Mode.

You then need to connect the WAN port of the Tenda Router to the bottom Ethernet port of the Virgin Hub with an ethernet cable.

Thank you very much for letting me know I guess I could have worked it out myself, I was just a little taken aback by the pedantic response

I gave the instructions underneath the “pedantic response”...

Re: Ordered new router do I need connection details?

to be pedantic, I didn't ask for instructions. I asked for an answer

Q: "is that water hot?"
A: "water boils at 100c"

lol

OK.. I gave an answer.

And to add - no, it’s not “just as simple as plugging the cable into the modem”.

There are certain steps that need to be carried out in a certain order.

But you can come back and ask those questions when it doesn’t work first time around I guess? 😉

Re: Ordered new router do I need connection details?

TBF. The question was a "little" ambiguous 😎. The answer is no - you don't need any "connections details" (whatever you meant by that) - however. to do this successfully you do need to follow a specific "connection sequence" - which is what was being offered as additional help.

This is the standard protocol.

Disconnect all cables from your Router and unplug it.  Put the VM hub into modem mode (see VM website for details) and wait for the base light to turn magenta.  Once it’s in modem mode, the VM hub must then be powered off.  Then, set up your own router with the WAN port set to be in DHCP mode, it may be pre-set that way anyway. Make sure it’s fully initialised (leave 5 min) and then put in the WAN cable to the VM hub.  Now power up the VM hub and you should get a connection. This order only needs to be done the first time you connect your own router to the VM hub.
