Netflix not working on any device

For the last few months we are unable to watch Netflix.  On any device in the house.  Netflix loads, it will play previews, but when you select a programme to watch it spins endlessly.  Prime, Apple TV and Disney + are all fine.  Getting 100-300mbps connection.  Using WiFi and or Ethernet on different devices.

virgin have been out twice, replaced router, reconfigured but still not working.

it is same on any device in the house (iPad, Apple TV, pc, iPhone).  If we switch those to 4G works fine.  If we use a VPN it works fine.

have called Netflix but they say definitely virgin problem.  Virgin say definitely Netflix problem.  We’re stuck in the middle.

Any suggestions

Re: Netflix not working on any device

If it works via a VPN then it could be possible the Netflix had blocked you IP address or your IP has been blacklisted.

Re: Netflix not working on any device

Which Hub do you have ?

What is your contracted speed ?

Step 1

What speeds do you get at >>  SamKnows << with a direct connection using a Cat 5E or better ethernet cable between the Hub in Router Mode and a 1Gbs capable Pc/Mac/Chromebook and no other devices connected ?

Then immediately after …

Can you Login to the Hub Settings and navigate to the Connected Devices page - what is the reported 'connection speed’ for the ethernet cable connected device you used for the speed test ?

Step 2

What speeds do you get at >>  SamKnows << with a modern Wi-Fi device and no other devices connected ?

Then immediately after …

Can you Login to the Hub Settings and navigate to the Connected Devices page - what is the reported 'connection speed’ for the Wi-Fi connected device you used for the speed test ?

Re: Netflix not working on any device

sounds very similar to teh issues reported here with a couple of minor differences..the biggest one being that you have had a hub swap (and so would have had a new IP address) and it didn't resolve the issue.

it seems that there are issues between some of VMs customer IP addresses and the VM hosted Content Delivery Servers for Netflix - when you watch Netflix content, they try to stream it to you from a server as close to you as possible (both network and geographical proximity).

I don't believe that this is a Netflix issue - it's squarely within VMs network and theirs to resolve.

i was able to resolve this for myself and another forum user by forcing VM to issue a new IP address, which immediately cured it. As i said though, since you have had a new hub, and as part of that swap would have been issued a new IP address, I'm not sure what else to suggest.

No, have been on with Netflix. Nothing they're doing.

Re: Netflix not working on any device

MikeRobbo - 120mbps at the mo on ethernet.  Realy don't think it's a connection speed issue.  Can happily watch 4k on Disney+ and Apple.

Re: Netflix not working on any device

Just trying to get a feel for the Internet that you have.

Try putting the Hub into Modem Mode (just for testing) and have another go at streaming Netflix.

Re: Netflix not working on any device

Tried that already. It's in modem mode with a mesh network attached.

What mesh system do you have?

in order to force VM to issue you a new IP address you need to spoof a new MAC address when you request a DHCP lease from Virgin.. whether or not this is possible largely depends on what hardware you have and whether or not it supports it.

edit: the fact that you have a mesh system and are running the hub in modem mode also explains why the hub swap you mentioned in your first post didn't work 🙂

Re: Netflix not working on any device

Try it without the Mesh System.
