I have had various Virgin modem/routers connected to my Netgear Orbi 6 router, currently the latest with 1GB package. I use the Netgear Wifi exclusively. Every time I've tried to put the Virgin modem in modem mode I lose all internet connectivity and need to factory reset to recover. Never worried about it too much as everything works fine leaving it in router mode but I see post after post saying it should be in modem mode.
Am I missing out in any way by leaving it in router mode? Is my issue with modem mode a known thing or is it just me?

Is the only wired device connected to the HUB the Netgear?
You need to reboot the Netgear when switching to modem mode.
