Main network not connected, but guest network is connected

I have a SuperHub 3.0.  Recently, it has shown behaviour that I don't understand. There seems little pattern or predictability to it, so I'll just give an example.

An iMac is connected to the main network. Suddenly, it disconnects. The iMac will connect perfectly well to the guest network, which is also coming from the SuperHub.  How is that possible?

Don’t have the guest network setup as a recognised network in the iMac.
