You may need to split your SSID (Network Name) into two, one for the 2.4Ghz band, and one for 5Ghz.

Just a note this won't work well if you have pods, or plan to have them in the future.

Are these devices unable to see the Wi-Fi from the Hub 5 ?  Or is there some other type of problem ?

"until my new HUB 5 was installed" this is because the smart plugs are remembering the SSID of your old hub. There are two ways to fix this:

1) reset the plugs to their ‘shipped’ state and install them as if new.

2) change the SSID on your new hub to be what the SSID was on your old hub.
