I'm trying to understand if this BQM is good, bad, or average?

It's quite spiky but I don't know if that's normal or not.

Spikes can happen if you download or upload max speed for a burst but if you know your idle or have your own QoS router setup correctly then the problem is likely others in your area doing burst upstream and you buffer idle trying to send a ping out thats delayed.

So is there any point to BQM? I don't have a reference point of what is good or bad. My gut feeling is that it doesn't look good. I was expecting a smoother graph.

The only real way to see it is when its not been used.
If at all possible, turn any devices off when you are at work or out for the day. That way there is zero traffic affecting your chart.
When you go back to look at it then you can really see what it like.
It's super easy to cause spikes on the graph with virgins hardware when in use.
That said, yes it does look fairly normal for a virgin bqm.
