Internet drops several times when playing games or streaming.

Hiya,

I've read through several forum posts and although some seem similar I feel I should make a post.

My internet drops quite quickly when streaming, although some days its fine.
The net also randomly dies during the day, This only effects one PC at a time,
Even if they're just on google.

Here's the recent log

Re: Internet drops several times when playing games or streaming.

Firstly, are the issues only evident on wifi connections or do you see them at the same times on devices connected on ethernet cables? If you don't know, can you check to help diagnose whether it is just a wifi issue or it could be network connection related?

You need to post up the upstream data as well. But before you do that can you do this..

Switch the Hub off and unplug it for a few minutes and then start up. When done, check back in the settings and ensure that the Downstream RS error counts have all reset to 0. Then check every hour or two for the next day or two to see if they start reappearing - they shouldn't. If they do (particularly the postRS ones) you have a problem (noise) that only a Tech visit will sort.

Also, in the meantime... If you haven’t already, set up a free and secure “Broadband Quality Monitor” to continually monitor the state of your connection and record any true network dropouts , latency issues, packet drops, etc - it will thus allow you to differentiate between those and simple wifi dropouts. It does it 24/7/365 and it keeps a visual record of any/all of your network disconnections, useful data to have to match to the Network logs (in your Hub settings) and also in discussions with VM - note it will take a few hours to start seeing a sensible picture - post up the “link” to the “share live graph” (as per instructions on the TB website) when it starts to develop.

Re: Internet drops several times when playing games or streaming.

Thank you, Shall turn the Hub off now, and do the following steps when its online again.

The issue is mostly Ethernet based aswell sadly. Using a Cat5e cable, my speeds are great however its just the random cut outs.

Be back shortly ~

Re: Internet drops several times when playing games or streaming.

Good Afternoon NightWolfy,

Thanks for your post on our Community Forums and I'm sorry to see you've been having issues when playing games and streaming on your connection.

Can you please give us an update on how the services have performed following the helpful advice of @jbrennand?

Have you been able to set up a Broadband Quality Monitor over the weekend also?

Kindest regards,

David_Bn

Re: Internet drops several times when playing games or streaming.

Still dying,
Been testing a buncha stuff, to no avail,

https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/quality/share/2accac11ca989ef87eede06ee43a8cd0f1...

It gets really bad around 1-3am.

If I watch a stream at 1080p My whole internet dies completely for like 2-3mins.

I'm on the 200mb package, so I'm not following whats going on lol.

Re: Internet drops several times when playing games or streaming.

Hi @NightWolfy,

Thank you for running that BQM test and sharing the results with us.

I can't see any major and notable issues of concern from the results being produced there.

Are you noticing any other pattern to these issues occurring aside from it being around the same time each day? For example, are any devices in the home being used at around the same time when the problems begin? Is your wired connection also affected, or just wireless/Wi-Fi? etc.

Thanks,

Re: Internet drops several times when playing games or streaming.

Hiyas

If I'm streaming,
I cannot open my browser at all, Even if my stream upload is set to 2500.

The whole net just dies,
If steam downloads a game, my net dies too.

I'm on Ethernet, It just feel so fragile right now 😞

Re: Internet drops several times when playing games or streaming.

Good afternoon @NightWolfy

I have checked the network and there doesn't seem to be any congestion.

Are you able to let us know,  Is your router in modem mode?

Kind regards,

Zak_M

Re: Internet drops several times when playing games or streaming.

Thanks for confirming this NightWolfy.

I've checked your account again, and everything seems to be looking good from our end. Does the connection drop on all of your devices, or only on specific devices?

Kind regards,
Laurie
