Intermittent huge latency and packet loss on WiFi

Hiya, we're having problems with high latency and occasional packet loss that only seems to be a problem on WiFi.

Powerline connection: 100Mbit download, zero packet loss on packetloss.com, absolutely fine.

WiFi connection, holding my phone 30cm from the router. On 2.4G only, Great wifi signal, I have my SSID and Virgin Media on channel 1 with almost identical signal strength (coming from my router), and my neighbours on channels 6 and 11. I have 5G switched off because it struggles upstairs. Sometimes works fine on wifi, sometimes huge latency and packet loss, between 1 – 100% late packets and occasionally up to 30% on packetloss.com.

Thinkbroadband monitor, some dropouts today where I've reset the router

Today has been much worse but it's been an issue for a month or so, possibly longer

Re: Intermittent huge latency and packet loss on WiFi

Thank you for your post Jwtaylor876.

Are you getting any of these issues through any wired devices?

When you say you've rebooted the Hub, was this through a pin hole reset found on the back?

Let us know, Emily.

A better router or mesh system will solve this

Re: Intermittent huge latency and packet loss on WiFi

Hiya, I've only occasionally had brief problems on a wired connection, it's mostly wifi issues. Having said that it's been much better the last couple of days, only 1% late packets maybe on wifi.I've only rebooted by pulling the power cable out the back- might there be any benefit in using the pinhole to reset?

Re: Intermittent huge latency and packet loss on WiFi

Just had another complete wifi outage this morning. Sat next to the box with -35dB wifi signal on my phone but not connecting. Wired connection fine. Had to pull the power cable to reset to make it work again. I suspect a dodgy box rather than interference. Next time it happens I am going to hook up my old router in wifi mode connected via cable to see if that works during the same time period as the V6 wifi is goosed. This is not a suitable long-term solution though
