Huge packet loss/Latency increase before midnight

Yejin
Tuning in

Hello!

I've been having a huge increase in ping/latency to many games and online services (For example, Final Fantasy XIV to 204.2.229.11 is 200-220ms when usually its a stable 150) and also constant packet loss reporting from games that allow it (Apex legends "twitches" when a packet is dropped, it is constant and the warning regularly appears). These problems stop the around midnight to 1AM, and start again around 5:30am from what I can tell. Pings to 1.1.1.1 turn back between 12 and 22ms during the day and consistent 11-12 during the night. Here is the 24 hours prior to me making this thread on the Broadband Quality Monitor.

I am on virgins Gigabit network if that helps at all. This was not a problem Until about 10 days ago.

Your graph is pretty much perfect, other than the odd little spike - but that doesn't matter.
Can you run a traceroute and post the results,
from both when ping is higher than usual and when it's normal?

I'm also getting elevated ping to FFXIV, although I'm on an EU server - you're on Crystal i'd guess, by the IP?

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Speed/High-ping-latency-to-Cloudflare-DNS-servers/m-p/5090290#M...
Seems to be pretty heavily related to this (for me, at least) - when the pings to Cloudflare returns to normal, so does my FFXIV connection.
as much as you shouldn't have to, you should just run through a VPN for now until it's ironed out.

Also just to rule anything else out:
Can you post your modem logs(Upstream, Downstream, Network log, etc) - copy and paste is better than screenshots.
The forum will automatically filter out MAC addresses from Network logs.

This is about to be one hell of a chunky post! i'll edit in the post midnight tracert when the time comes!

Your ping is looking about as expected, to an NA server at least. - Seems like the routing/WhateverElseItWas issue is fixed for now (mine included)
So FFXIV ping/packet loss should have returned to about normal for you now, right?

Your power levels and such look fine,
A little high end on the upstream, but still in spec.

HOWEVER
Not directly related to your FFXIV issue you were having:

The part highlighted in red should both be 64.

Although i hate to say it, because it seems like generic response:
Can you make sure all connections are finger tight (Coaxial cable etc), although I'm doubtful that's what is causing the modulation drop.
(Improperly connected/terminated connections can drop your modulation, it's the only reason I ask )

Someone from VM should be along in a few days to assess if there's any other issues.

Hi Yejin,

Thank you for your post. I'm very sorry for the issues you've had with your service.

Can you confirm if you've still been having any issues or whether this has now been resolved?
