Hub 5 WiFi stability

I have a hub 5 but the WiFi and network is rubbish.
tried range extender, additional router but still get very frequent WiFi drop outs.
bandwidth is good, signal is good, ping is low but stability is a disaster.
I need to run a hotspot for a zoom call to avoid being dropped.
many ideas to fix?

Re: Hub 5 WiFi stability

Do Ethernet cabled devices also drop out?

Re: Hub 5 WiFi stability

Yes Ethernet drops but less frequently. ( only 1 TV connected by cable)

Almost all devices are connected by WiFi and this happens frequently.  Checked on the Virgin app reset the hub multiple times but no improvement.

Re: Hub 5 WiFi stability

Do a night test with the hub in modem mode to a PC and run CMD
ping -t 194.168.4.100
In the morning press CTRL + PAUSE to check the ping

Re: Hub 5 WiFi stability

Please post some stats.

How to get stats from a VM hub (no need to logon to the hub)

Open a web browser and go to 192.168.0.1 router mode or 192.168.100.1 modem mode

  • Click on the “> Check router status” button
  • Click on the “Downstream” tab, copy the text and paste into your reply, do not take a screen shot
  • Click on the “Upstream” tab, copy the text and paste into your reply
  • Click on the “Networking” tab, copy the text and paste into your reply.
    • Do NOT post photos or screen shots they will be rejected as they contain MAC addresses. The board software will automatically change MAC addresses to **:** if done as above.

Re: Hub 5 WiFi stability

Hi Marcuccilli,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the community.

I'm very sorry to hear about the broadband issues you've been having.

I have taken a look on our side and I am unable to see anything that could be causing this.

Can you confirm if you have a laptop or computer you could connect via a Wired connection?

^Martin

Re: Hub 5 WiFi stability

Two of the upstream power levels are just out of spec and three are very high, but just in spec. The 3.1 upstream power level is not displayed due to an error in the Hub5’s firmware. I don’t know if VM can see this remotely. The levels are only a ‘point in time’ snapshot and could well be drifting higher causing you problem. There is definitely something wrong because of the mismatch between the upstream and downstream power levels. I suspect a cabinet fault, but that’s only a guess.

Re: Hub 5 WiFi stability

Hi Martin

Yes I have a laptop that can be connected to the router if required.
May the moment I only have a Virgin TV box and TV connected and I don’t see problems there at the moment.
thanks
