Hub 4 modem mode with Unifi USG 3

I have a couple of questions regarding the above setup which I would appreciate some help with.

Currently I use a USG 3 with a LAN 192.168.5.0/24 and the WAN side is connected to a BT G-Fast modem and configured for PPPOE

Next week I move to VM so instead will connect to a Hub 4 which I will plan to put into modem mode and then reconfigure the WAN on the USG 3 to DHCP.

So my questions are:-

  • USG 3 vs Hub 4 for as a router, should I just use the Hub 4 for routing and forget the USG 3?
  • If I use the USG 3 with the LAN configured 192.168.5.0/24 will I be able to access the Hub 4 console on 192.168.100.1
  • With the USG 3 WAN configured for DHCP can I just leave the DNS entries empty and it gets these from VM via DHCP?

I think that is all for now, thanks in anticipation.

1 - Yes to modem mode.

2 - Yes you should be able to.  However sometimes it may take a few attempts.

3 - No, I would not recommend using VM's own DNS servers.  Better to go for Google, OpenDNS or Quad 9.  They are more reliable.
