Hub 4 Issues

Anonymous
Not applicable

Been having a few issues lately and hoping someone can help.

I’m on Gig1 and Wi-Fi speeds average 500-600mb on most devices. However, last few weeks I have instances where the speeds drop to below 100mb over Wi-Fi.

Sam Knows shows speed to the Hub far exceeds 1gb so it’s not an issue to the Hub, it appears to be the Hub itself.

A hard reset seems to make the matter worse. After the reset, speeds drop to below 2mb - so slow that a speed test won’t even run. Ethernet then becomes affected, too.

A reboot of the Hub seems to fix the issue temporarily. Does any one have any advise, please?

Your maximum speed on wifi with the Hub4 is ~500Mbps - as the Hub is only wiffi5. You need wifi6 equipment to get higher speeds.

The dropping to 100 may be for other reasons (interference? dropping onto 2.4GHz?).

Ethernet speeds should always be ~950 - if you do it this way.

As you expect >100Mbps then connect a 1GB enabled computer/laptop, with up to date drivers, via a NEW and working Cat5e/6a ethernet cable, directly to the Hub which you have put into “modem mode” (https://www.virginmedia.com/help/virgin-media-hub-modem-mode ). This ensures that NO other devices are connected

Test speeds at https://speedtest.samknows.com/ - try on 2 different browsers as Chrome sometimes gives odd results.

If they are still low – boot your device into Windows safe+networking mode - to disable any potentially interfering software - and try again.
There are many posts on here (I have a list of ~30!) where QoS software, anti-virus, unknown/flaky software, old network card drivers, corrupted browsers, bad cables or other connected devices are limiting speeds on tests.

Report back what that gets.

For examples of why... see message 7 in the first thread and 9 in in the second and 3 in the third
