Hub 3 vs 5

As posted in a separate thread I have had issues with Wi-Fi stability and was thinking of buying a relatively high spec AX router to run the current Hub3 in modem mode as the consensus is that should make it run more smoothly.

However, with the general rollout of the Hub 5 relatively soon (or at least this year), is it likely I am wasting my money when this will likely solve my Wi-Fi issues due to increased antennae power and Wi-Fi 6 ability, obviously after the well documented issues in router mode have been fixed.

Re: Hub 3 vs 5

I would press ahead with a good AX router from Asus or similar. VM hubs will never offer premium WiFi performance due to cost control. Hub 5s apparently have slightly better WiFi than previous ones but nothing like VM marketing material is suggesting.

Re: Hub 3 vs 5

VM can't just upgrade everyone with a still in date hub thats some what fine by their standards they still have many people on hubs with 8 channels down to upgrade.

Re: Hub 3 vs 5

Its an old thread but if I found it so will others looking for info on this so it seem worth adding to.
I've just joined VM in early December 2022. Yesterday I received a Hub 3. I don't imagine they're upgrading existing Hub 3 customers if they're still sending Hub 3 out to new customers.

Re: Hub 3 vs 5

Depending on the speed tier contracted, VM's current Hubs are 3, 4 and 5.  However, I would still advocate using Modem mode and investing in your own networking kit.
