Hub 3 as modem

Hi I’ve bought a TP link dual band wireless router One mesh which I’m going to plug into the hub in modem mode;  as the wifi only works in half my house, my son has a-direct plug in extender which goes directly into the hub, vis an Ethernet cable ,with another plug into his pc   to run his pc in the part of the house that has no signal .
When the hub is in modem mode will his Ethernet extender plug into the TP router or the hub ?
