Hub 3.0 VMDG505/TG2492LG-VM and Orbi RBR50 - HELP!

I apologise if this is a repost, my original is still visible directly to me, but does not appear to be listed in the forum.  I'm not sure if I've accidentally revived it out not - this forum isn't the best on a mobile browser.

Original post follows:

-----

I am trying to set up a new Orbi RBR50 onto my Hub 3.0 and I cannot get it to detect the internet.

1. I believe my Hub is successfully in modem mode as the light is solid magenta/red/whatever

2. Directly connecting port #4 (lowest) to my laptop gives my laptop internet.

2a. Doing an IPCONFIG /ALL shows the Ethernet adapter as follows:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix : cable.virginmedia.net

DHCP Enabled : Yes

IPv4 Address : 82.xxx.xxx.201 (redacted)

Default Gateway : 82.xxx.xxx.1 (redacted)

DHCP Server : 62.xxx.xxx.xxc (redacted)

DNS Servers : 194.168.4.100 and 194.168.8.100

So all seems well.

But take the lead (that's running from the Hub) out of laptop and plug it into the WAN port on the Orbi, and the Orbi refuses to see the internet connection. (Laptop directly connected to Ethernet port on orbi)

Connecting via DHCP

I posted in your other thread before it became 'lost'.

The WAN port is for the HUB, the LAN ports are for you laptop.

You need to ensure the HUB is turned off before plugging into the Orbi.

Once the HUB is plugged into the Orbi, using the WAN port, THEN power it on.

Re: Hub 3.0 VMDG505/TG2492LG-VM and Orbi RBR50 - HELP!

And I thought I'd replied....

So there is a cable running from port 4 on the hub, which I believe is dual purpose.

When that lead is plugged directly into the laptop, the laptop gets internet, but with a public IP address not a NAT masked address.

So this is how I know the internet is working with the hub in modem mode.

When I then remove that cable from the laptop and plug it into the WAN port on the orbi, and run a second cable from an Ethernet port on the Orbi to the laptop, I can log into the Orbi, but the Orbi cannot get to the internet.

As I mentioned above the HUB must be turned off before plugging into another device, when in modem mode.

It will still be 'latched on' the MAC address of your laptop.

When in modem mode, turn off the VM hub. Fully initialise your own router and then power on the VM hub. Any other way will not work.

Sorry,  I should have mentioned above.

I had tried connecting with the hub off, and then turning it on one connected.  Still no joy.

But I will try again when I get in.

I'll try spoofing the Mac address of the laptop!

That might fix it...

You shouldn't have to.

I know, but if I can't get it working any other way, it's worth a try.

I've had both units turned off for over 10 minutes, started the Orbi, waited for it to stabilise, started the hub, and still no luck.

I'll be home again soon, so will try again.

Its working on a laptop then connect it to the Orbi login and use the clone option.
