Help setting up Virgin Hub 3.0 with Unifi access points

Hi

We have a Virgin Hub 3.0 connected to a few Unifi access points in our house, via a Draytek POE switch. The Unifi APs were managed remotely by someone, but I was a bit uncomfortable relying on him for our internet access, so I reset the APs and adopted them via a controller on my MacBook.

Since then, the wifi access around the house has been dodgy. I know I can play around with the channels and the power on the APs, but the connection is also dropping when I am right next to an AP or when I connect an ethernet cable from an AP directly to my computer. The Virgin hub is in router mode with the wifi disabled.

I know it's not a hardware issue, as it was all working fine before! Is there some configuration I'm missing that resetting the APs will have undone? Do I need to do anything with DHCP, for example? Not that I know what that is!

Any suggestions welcome, thanks!

Re: Help setting up Virgin Hub 3.0 with Unifi access points

What model are the Unifi APs? As the were being controlled externally perhaps their firmware is not up to date, can you let me know what the current level is. If you reset them and adopted them to a new controller I expect them to be in DHCP mode, they must have a fixed IP address to work successfully. You can do this in the Network Application, previously call Controller, on your Mac. I have all Ubiquiti equipment and detailed knowledge of it. The Ubiquiti board may be of some use, but it very technical.

Re: Help setting up Virgin Hub 3.0 with Unifi access points

Thanks very much for your response.

I have two newer APs (UAP-AC-Pro and UAP-AC-IW) and one older UAP-Pro. When I adopted them I updated the firmware for all of them and they are all indicating "up to date" now. I know the older AP is no longer supported with firmware updates, but that is only as of March 2021 so I'm hoping it will be OK for a while.

I have just checked and they are all set to "Using DHCP", so should I try changing that to "Static IP"? Would I need to make any other changes, or just select "Static IP" under the Network settings for each one?
