Sure, I stumbled across a recent post where others are having similar issues, so I tagged along:

Re: GRE tunnel endpoint IPs

Has anybody tried adjusting the MTU on their router? You can see below the MTU is changing on the Hitron so I changed mine so my gateway (a lot beefier than the Hitron) was 1462 and I seem to have an improvement, but can't say for sure...

[root@nc ~]# tracepath www.yellow.com
 1?: [LOCALHOST]                                         pmtu 1500

You will have to change the MTU on a Mikrotik for it to work correctly, due to the GRE tunnel. There are quite a few posts and tutorials on their forum explaining why this is needed and how to correctly calculate MTU specifically for RouterOS.

I hope this helps.

Re: GRE tunnel endpoint IPs

I had a router firmware upgrade the other night and the speed does seem to have increased. I'm hitting 250mb now whereas it was 120mb.

I've adjusted the mtu on my router WAN interface to 1462. Not sure if that helps as it does get adjusted with the VMB network if you don't adjust it at your router.

[root@media3 ~]# tracepath www.bbc.co.uk
1?: [LOCALHOST] pmtu 1500
1: MY GATEWAY 0.101ms
1: MY GATEWAY 0.079ms
2: MY GATEWAY 0.082ms pmtu 1462    <<<< ADJUSTED HERE (see below comment)
