Ex neighbours moved cable onto my land how do I get it removed

I have discovered my ex neighbours have moved virgin cable from a prior owner into my flower bed whilst I was at work one day. I have now come to put in some shrubs and on digging down go in it is buried only a few inches below the surface. This was done without my permission and I need it removing quickly or the plants I want to put in will die. Who do I contact about fast removal?

Yes they are happy for it to be removed as they are not virgin customers either

Chop the cable back as far as needed and put the rest back over the fence

you are advising the OP to commit criminal damage?

No. It’s on their property. Cutting the cable isn’t criminal damage. Doing anything to the wall box or cabinet could be construed as such.

Virgin engineers etc. on here have even advised that cutting the cable back to the wall box is plausible.

Don't cut the cable. Pull it out of the ground and push it back against the fence/hedge to allow you to do the planting. Hopefully a VM person will see this here eventually and arrange for its removal.

Re: Ex neighbours moved cable onto my land how do I get it removed

I'm trying to ensure I don't harm anything as I don't know how these things work. Surely pulling it up is not the best answer. Is there anyone I can talk to at virgin to get this resolved on a free number not a paid for call. They must have provision for this as I've seen other posts where people have required cable removal.

In addition, I am worried I might get an electric shock even though there is no virgin account at either my property or my neighbours. Are these cables live?

you won't get a shock, they don't carry live mains electricity.
