Disabled 5Ghz & changed SSID now my wifi doesnt work at all.

Settling in

Ive just got a new Hub 4 in my new flat and ive been using it fine for a few days. Yesterday i set up some smart home devices and in doing so had to disable 5Ghz as most zigbee controlled devices do not work on 5ghz wifi.

So after disabling 5ghz and changing the default SSID and password, all of the devices dropped off of the WiFi as expected. 2.4ghz is still enabled and the SSID is still broadcast. However not a single device can connect to the newly named network. My Android Phone fails to connect with either an ip configuration error or it just fails to connect completely sometimes the ssid isnt even visible when it scans.

A laptop and a tablet also cant connect, google home hub cant connect and tv cant connect.

Wired is absolutely fine to my PC, Hue Hub and NAS.

If i go in and enable 5ghz again, it still doesnt work. I tried changing the SSIDs of both 5ghz and 2.4ghz to separate names incase there was an issue. Still doesnt work.

So i did a pin reset and my phone was able to connect. I changed the SSID to something more manageable than the alphanumeric default and immediately devices were having issues connecting over wifi and is unable to obtain an IP.

Ive tried the service status checker and for 12 hours or so it was saying there was an issue and to come back in XX hours to book an engineer. But now its just telling me to reset the router every time over and over again.

Essentially changing the SSID and disabling 5ghz on the router is causing wifi to be unuseable on any device on a brand new router.

Any thoughts?

Just give up on the VM dancing router mode that it wants to be and get your own wifi router with 1Gb ports and put the hub in modem mode.

I have considered this given im already using a switch. Any youd recommend? I dont need particularly fast wifi as its just for smart home and small electronics. Everything that matters is wired.

What's your budget?

See these as possible low cost solutions - the more you pay the better it will get - and of course you can spend around £500 for a hi spec system
