I would like to change my dns setting on the virgin media Hub after I recently ran a DNA benchmark. The current dns settings I use are slower than the new ones I have found. Is there anyway I can change the dns settings on the hub. 
Do I have to convert the router into modem mode? As I only have one device and that is the hub

You can change DNS on your PC you can't change it on the hub but you can get your own router and use the hub in modem mode.

would it be worth it if I change the dns setting on each device? 
or would that make the speed slower?

Some devices you can't change but change it on many devices as you wish if the DNS server can give you the answers quicker, VM DNS may be slow to get answers not in cache but normally if it is then it should be the fastest short from running your own DNS resolver/server like BIND.
