DHCP issue - ASUS router, cable Mix up

Hi - I have what seems to be a common problem with 3rd party routers and DCHP in that my router says ISP is not functioning properly etc.

problem is I think I’ve got my cables all mixed up.
I have an Ethernet cable from the back of my TV6 virgin box going to the blue internet port on my ASUS router. Then a white Ethernet cable from port 1 on my router to port 1 on my hub 3.

Hub 3 is in modem mode.
I’ve restarted it in the order on these help forums and still a red light on the front of my ASUs router and no internet.
I know my internet works because I plugged my PC into the hub 3 directly and I got internet.

any suggestions please - it’s day 2 and getting a bit stressful in the house.
thankyou

Re: DHCP issue - ASUS router, cable Mix up

Hello

Asus Blue port goes to the hub and then all of the other device plug into the ASUS other ports.

What model router do you have ?

Regards Mike

You need to plug the virgin hub into the ASUS WAN port

Re: DHCP issue - ASUS router, cable Mix up

Thanks for responding so quickly.

I have an ASUS RT-AC86U.
I've had zero problems with it, but yesterday it started playing up. And my husband got a bit plug happy before I got a chance to intervene.

When you say connect the Hub to the blue port. What cable do I use to do that. My white ethernet one?

What about the big ethernet cable that came with my hub (both ends are yellow). one is in the back of my virgin TV mini box thing. Where does the other yellow end go?

If the hub is in modem mode only one port will work. Plug this one port in the the WAN port on the ASUS router.

All other cables need to go into the LAN ports on the ASUS.

Re: DHCP issue - ASUS router, cable Mix up

Ok - the plot thickens.

I think this yellow ended ethernet cable could be confusing matters.

I don't actually think I need to use it - it's nothing to do with the internet, I think it's just an alternative method of connecting my telly to the internet.

So I guess I just connect my blue WAN port to port 1 on my Hub using my white cable and completely disregard this yellow ended cable.

I’m assuming the tv can connect by WiFi then?

Re: DHCP issue - ASUS router, cable Mix up

Thanks to all
It worked.

A combination of correct cabling and switching everything on in the correct order.
