Broadband connection stops four or five times a day (at least)!!!

Dear All

 

Just wondering if you can help.

I have been with BT, TalkTalk, PlusNet, etc for years and had no problems.

But, to get fast fibre, I thought I would splash out and buy the M350 package and a price three or four times the cost.

However, it has been a complete disaster.

The Wifi signal does not reach out top floor.  So, we gave up using the computers there (it's only bedrooms so we just simply sit on the stairs).

So, the router worked out we were still managing to use the WiFi ... so decided, the best way to cause trouble was to now just switch off the connection four five times a day.

So, put down a cable to the top floor and put in an access point.  But, for some reason, the connection to the access point is slow and we do not get a good signal (little did I know it was the virgin router).

So, in my battle against the Virgin router, I have networked the house, approx 25 points, cost is in excess of £5k, still fixing the walls and plaster and repainting.

So, the clever router had now started (last month or so) disconnecting the service entirely, no phone, no Wifi, no hard wired network) four of five times a day.  Takes 30 minutes to cajole a response from it and get it restarted.

I am locked into a contract with Virgin for another 20 months I think .... I may just have to buy another service and accept that while Virgin and very efficient at taking my money, they don't bother providing a service.  We (the whole family) can't wait until I can cancel the service.

The worst service provider I have ever encountered (and I remember the takes it took a minute for a webpage to refresh).

I think a bit of both,

 

Venting  ... yes, certainly venting, appalled at myself for allowing me to get into a situation where I havie to spend so much money each month on getting little (... yes, I did switch if off and then on again ... ).

Help ... yes please, how on earth do you get the thing to go stable ....I don't have a clue.

Have you checked the 'Check Service Status' at the top of the page ?

If nothing is showing try phoning 0800 561 0061, this will tell you of more local issues that may be affecting your district. Be aware that it isn't a manned line.

Go round all the accessible internal and external co-ax connections and ensure that they are finger tight.

If everything above is OK we need do some more troubleshooting; to start with …

 

Can you set up a Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) at thinkbroadband.com - this will give you an insight into what is happening with the signal at the other side of the Hub, it will take a few hours to get any kind of trend showing although you should post the link straight away.

Post a 'Live Link' to your BQM on here.

Instructions for posting BQM Link

Under your BQM graph are two links in red.

Click the lower link (Share Live Graph) then click generate.

Copy the text in the Direct Link box, beware, there may be more text than you can see.

On here click the Link icon (2 links chain to the left of the camera icon)

In the URL box paste the link you copied and in the ‘text to display’ box write My BQM then click OK - you can post the link straight away.

Can you please

Type 192.168.0.1 (192.168.100.1 in Modem mode) into your browser URL bar and press enter. 

Hub 2 & 3 When the page appears DO NOT LOG IN but click ‘Check Router Status’.

Hub 4 When the page appears LOG IN then click ‘Check Router Status’.

Copy and paste the contents of the Downstream, Upstream, Configuration and Network Log tabs onto here, if you get a yellow / straw box warning click the Post button again. Use one post for each tab if you wish.

Please do not use screen grabs.

A Guru will be along soon to decipher the info.

When working, wired speeds are as it should be. Appox 350mb/s and wireless us approx. 9.25mb/s

Do the wired speeds ever drop as well?

Or is it just the Wi-Fi?
