Re: BB dropping

Stats say there is nothing to resolve. Whats the problem?

In the meantime...

if you haven’t already, set up a free and secure “Broadband Quality Monitor” to continually monitor the state of your connection and record any true network dropouts , latency issues, packet drops, etc - it will thus allow you to differentiate between those and simple wifi dropouts. It does it 24/7/365 and it keeps a visual record of any/all of your network disconnections, useful data to have to match to the Network logs (in your Hub settings) and also in discussions with VM - note it will take a few hours to start seeing a sensible picture - post up the “link” to the “share live graph” (as per instructions on the TB website) when it starts to develop.

Re: BB dropping

Apologies for not replying sooner and thank you for your input.

I did as you suggested and signed up for the BQM and have had no issues since apart from WiFi drop outs. It would appear that this is the problem. I had one dropout yesterday and that was due to our electricity supply failing for a split second, my desk lamp flicked off and back on in literally the blink of an eye but it was sufficient to cause the router to reboot.

Re: BB dropping

If you are sure that your wired connections are all ok (are they?) then as VM don’t “guarantee” speeds over wifi (only ethernet cables) their solution is to supply “wifi pods” (not “boosters”). These are free to customers on the 1GB or Ultimate Oomph packages, and so are worth trying if you are on one of those.

Otherwise, you will be charged £5/month - and at that level of investment you would soon pay off that cost by buying your own better quality wireless equipment (not extenders) which will solve any wifi issues permanently, and will be transferable to other BB suppliers kit should you move supplier.

Get either a…
(1) Mesh System, (2) Wireless router, (3) Wireless access point or (4) A combination of (2) & (3).

Re: BB dropping

Thanks John, I have been looking at a Mesh setup as I have Alexa in my garage / workshop and coverage out there is spotty to say the least. Alexa keeps disconnecting and smart plugs seem to lose their connections too. The garage is separate from the bungalow but only separated by about one metre however there is a upvc door in the mix. All was well until I opted to be a beta tester for the 360 box which meant moving the router from my office / bedroom to the lounge. When the router was in the bedroom I used an ethernet cable to connect my PC and also for my wife's in the second bedroom where the cable comes in.

I'm 67 now and it's seems to be more difficult to keep pace with advancing technology but I'm sticking with it.

Regards, Bob.
