I've just gone to set up my Hub 3 and the cable coming into the house has this weird connector on the end which the cable supplied with the hub doesn't fit.
It's labelled PPC Ex6 49 05.
Do I need some kind of adaptor for this?

You are missing the isolator that would normally sit between that black cable and the white cable in the kit.
Considering the cover is also missing I assume some decorating has been done at some point and the box left as it is.

Right. I don't seem to have been supplied one.
Are they something I can just pick up? Is there meant to be one in the box for the Hub 3?

I took the cover off myself so I could access the cable, as I couldn't see anything otherwise.

You wouldn't have been supplied one as they are fitted as part of the original install.
You'll need an engineer visit to resolve.

Would something like this not be suitable then?

No, that just splits the signal, it doesn't isolate the HUB from spikes on the line.
You could buy something like this to join the cables as an interim solution:

However unless the cable supplied has an isolator built in (I think the newer ones do?) you are risking your HUB.
