Accessing SH3 Admin Page from LAN in Modem Mode

Hi,

I'm using my Virgin Media SuperHub 3 in Modem Mode (192.168.100.1), connected to a Google Mesh Wi-Fi System (192.168.9.x).

Everything is working just great. My query is around accessing the SH3 admin page to check on my Virgin Media Broadband status, etc.

If I plug an Ethernet PC into Port 1 of the SH3, and reboot the router, I can access the SH3 admin page at 192.168.100.1 -- fab!

However, during day-to-day use, I'm unable to access the SH3 admin page (192.168.100.1) from my internal LAN -- which is on the 192.168.9.x range.

My question -- is there a simple way to enable SH3 admin page access (192.168.100.1) from my internal LAN (192.168.9.x)?

Re: Accessing SH3 Admin Page from LAN in Modem Mode

could change the subnet to 192.168.100.x on a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and exclude .100 from the DHCP, or increase the subnet so does 192.168.1.x to 192.168.101.x with subnet 255.255.0.0 that will allow for IP addresses, just with the LAN your trying to access different subnets.

Re: Accessing SH3 Admin Page from LAN in Modem Mode

the SH page is always reachable at 192.168.100.1.

If you can't access it on your lan then your Router is not routing traffic correctly. It should send anything that is not its internal network over the default gateway.
So if you access anything thats not on 192.168.9.0/24 it will go over the default gateway on your own router. That should include the 192.168.100.1 and theh hub will get it and reply.

Check your router settings

Re: Accessing SH3 Admin Page from LAN in Modem Mode

Thanks, @Apcyberax.

That's what I suspected, so thanks for clarifying. 🙂

The Google Wi-Fi should not recognise 192.168.100.1 and so throw it at the default gateway of 192.168.9.1 and out to the Virgin Media Router.

On a whim, I tested accessing 192.168.100.1 over a Wi-Fi connection -- it works!

However, if I try to access 192.168.100.1 over an Ethernet connection -- it fails.

Clearly, one to ask Google Mesh Technical Support about -- thanks for helping me find the source of the problem!

An Ethernet connection into one of the Google nodes?

Not going to work.

Re: Accessing SH3 Admin Page from LAN in Modem Mode

@Gary_Dexter Yes, the Ethernet connection is going to a Switch that then goes into one of the Google Mesh Nodes.

Is it a simple unmanaged desktop switch?

@Gary_Dexter Yes, it is a simple unmanaged switch - although I do have a Managed Switch available to use.

Re: Accessing SH3 Admin Page from LAN in Modem Mode

I'm going to blame the Google Mesh Wi-Fi System for why you can't get to 192.168.100.1 by wire...
