A Hub 5 switch that works and settings to match

Tuning in

Hi there, my previous set up worked fine, but the new one with the Hub5 does not, what do I need to change or replace.

Previous set up:  Hub 4 and network switch TL link SG1008D 8 port, link below.

New set up:  Hub 5 with the same network switch. wired in the same way.

Previously, the switch which was wired in to the hub 4 and all my cable networked devices all worked. Ie the smart TV and V6 box in the back room all connected with cat 5 cable connected and worked fine.

Now with the Hub 5 in the same configuration none of the cable networked connection coming from the switch work.

All the networked cable connects work fine from the hub 5 directly.

All i want is to understand is it a setting I am not tweaking in the hub 5 that will make this work? Or is my switch not compatible with the hub 5.

I don’t need the wired connections to be super quick - just work. The hub also works fine in WiFi mode and I don’t really need to replace this. I have check cables and ports and all are working fine.

What setting do I need to change ( while keeping the hub 5 WiFi working)?
 or
What network switch are people now using?

Thanks all for advice.

I don't see a reason why that switch wouldn't be compatible with the HUB 5, when other wired devices are working.

All I can suggest is trying another switch, like below, to troubleshoot.

Just a thought, has the TL link SG1008D 8 port switch & all the attached kit been power off since the Hub 5  arrived ?

I ask because network switches make an internal map of the network, and that map needs to be forgotten / re-created when a key component like the VM Hub is replaced.

I'll elaborate on Client 62's reply.  From https://community.fs.com/blog/unmanaged-switch-basics-and-faqs.html

"The unmanaged switch is the data link layer device. It can identify the MAC address information in the data packet, then forward it according to the MAC address, and record these MAC addresses and corresponding ports in an internal address table of its own. When a device sends a packet to another device, it enters the switch and the switch reads its header to determine what to do with it. It matches the destination address or addresses and sends the packet out through the appropriate ports that leads to the destination devices"

Being P-&-P I doubt that it needs rebooting - but that is the usual golden rule!

Go get a router with 1Gb ports and use hub in modem mode

When my hub 3 was replaced with a hub 5 I had to reboot one my switches for the attached devices to work properly.

Hi John. Thank you for the reply.

yes tried that. And strangely didn’t help. 😞

Hi there.

this was a great suggestion. But still not working. 😕

Thanks for this, would there be a setting in the router I would need to tweak? Ps. I am using the Wi-Fi of the hub 5 so don’t want to put it in router only mode.
