New Account Limbo

Hi all,
I tried to register my new account following the email I received from Virgin Media. At first the password setting was fiddly and I could not get it through with several errors popping up. Eventually I managed to get through until my password was not recognised again. So I tried to do a password reset and I get the following screen:

You can’t reset your password online right now, as you don’t have additional details set up on your account.

To reset your password, please contact us and one of our team will help you.

So I phoned up and after two hours the nice lady told me to wait until my account will be activated. I'm a bit concerned here as this should not be this difficult. Am I missing something? I'm stuck with a dead account here. They will supposedly send me the kit in the next days.
