I’ve recently bought virgin media however I am having trouble setting up an online account. When it asks to register my details it says I need a 9 digit account number. However on my bill the account number I have is an 8 digit one.
it’s worked however says that the account is linked to my mom who had passed away! I’d sorted my account through the bereavement team originally. Now I have no idea if I can change this into my email address.
Can you take another look at this part of @AbbieEverAfter post in message 3 of the thread:

It looks as if the account hasn't been fully transferred across.

Thank you for coming back to me, I understand now sorry, it sounds like you set up your mum's online account with your email address, I can certainly help we can set up another account with either another email you have or I can create a Virgin media one, once the account is set up you can change the preferred email address in my preferences.
